About

Create shortcuts for your project easily. Build custom entries in Unity's top menu bar to open scenes, assets, URLs, folders and more — all in a couple of clicks.

With Top Menu Shortcuts you can quickly:

  • Open scenes
  • Open any asset
  • Select a GameObject by name (useful for managers and singletons)
  • Open a link — shortcuts for your Figma, Trello, Jira and more
  • Open a folder in your file explorer
  • Pre-search for a term in your Hierarchy
  • Set the Time Scale while in Play Mode

The tool also supports profiles, which let you create as many top menus as you want and keep them organized.

Quick Start

After importing the package from the Package Manager, you can start using the tool right away.

  1. Open the tool from Tools ▸ Harpia Games ▸ Top Menu Shortcuts ▸ Open Tool.
  2. Create a profile by clicking the New button, then choose a folder and a name.
  3. Select your new profile and click the Add Menu button at the bottom.
  4. Set up your menu item the way you want.
  5. Click the Create Menus button.
  6. Wait for compilation.

After these steps, your menu will appear in the top bar of your Unity application.

Creating Your Shortcuts

Learn how to quickly create your shortcuts.

  1. Create a profile. Profiles help you organize your shortcuts — we recommend one profile per top menu.
  2. Fill in the Top Menu Name with your application name (recommended). This is the name your top menu will be grouped under.
  3. Click the Add Menu button.
  4. Select the Action Type (see Action Types).
  5. Fill in the required options. Tip: use the Auto button to generate a clean menu name automatically.
  6. Click Create Menus. This recompiles your project with your new shortcuts.

Action Types

ActionWhat it does
Select GameObject by NameSearches for a specific GameObject by its name in the scene and selects it in the Inspector.

Keyboard Shortcuts

For even faster interaction, you can assign a keyboard shortcut to any menu item. It's simple:

  1. Once you've created your shortcut item, enable the Use Keyboard Shortcuts toggle.
  2. Assign the keys you want to use. You need at least one modifier and a character:
    • Modifier: Ctrl / Cmd, Shift or Alt.
    • Key: any key from A to Z, or from 0 to 9.
  3. Click Create Menus. Your shortcuts will now also be accessible from the keyboard.
Heads up
You may accidentally create conflicting shortcuts. If that happens, Unity will display a warning. The tool also flags an (Invalid Shortcut) preview when a combination can't be used (for example, two identical modifiers).

Quick Add from the Project Window

You can add assets to a profile without opening the tool first. Right-click one or more assets in the Project window:

  • Assets ▸ Top Menu Shortcuts ▸ Add Selected to Top Menu — adds the active asset to your current profile.
  • Assets ▸ Top Menu Shortcuts ▸ Add All Selected to Top Menu — adds every asset in the current selection.

The tool opens with the items added, ready for you to click Create Menus.
